Four Canadian brides compete in a matrimonial showdown unlike any other when they attend – and then judge – each others weddings in the Slice series Four Weddings Canada. Every bride-to-be believes their big day will out-shine all others – and now they have the chance to prove it! In each one-hour episode, four diverse and opinionated brides attend each other’s weddings and then score them out of ten in four categories -venue, food, dress and overall experience. The bride with the highest score walks away with bragging rights and a lavish honeymoon!

Summertime is perfect for months full of beautiful outdoor events, especially wedding events! I recall the summer of 2009. I was in a wedding party for two of my girlfriends, while another close friend was getting married. That’s three weddings in one summer, and two of those weddings required a great amount of my time since I was in the bridal party. By the end of that summer, I was almost turned off of weddings altogether! I started thinking about how throughout the winter, people just tend to hibernate. The thought of having a winter wedding dawned upon me. It would definitely be more original and change things up a bit from the typical wedding that takes up every summer weekend.

I started thinking of all the pros a winter wedding could offer. I wouldn’t have to deal with the blistering heat, or worry about perspiring in my wedding gown. The snow could make beautiful background scenery! It would be a memory for the guests when they recall “that beautiful winter wedding,” that stood out on its own!

Tips for the perfect winter wedding:

1. Take Advantage of Festive Décor
If you are having a wedding near the holiday season, take advantage of the holiday décor available. Create a holiday-wedding atmosphere by incorporating your wedding theme with festive holiday decorations. This is an ambiance guest will be sure to remember.

2. Wedding Photography
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! If you’re lucky enough to have snowfall on your wedding day, don’t waste the great photo opportunities it presents. The snow can add a remarkable touch to your wedding photographs and makes for beautiful backdrops.

3. Flowers: Winter weddings offer you a chance to choose flowers that may be slightly exotic considering the fact that they only bloom in the storehouses of florists during the winter months. Go for a snowball mum or a White Poinsetta to be really in theme with the snow. OR even spice up your wedding décor with evergreen branches!

4. Drinks to go/Hot beverages
Offer guests a warm beverage to go as the wedding is coming to an end. This will save them the extra stop at the drive through and guests will leave feeling cared for. Let your wedding’s last impression be a warm one.

5. Offer guests a menu full of warm, winter, comfort food. This could include items such as steak, pastas, potatoes and casseroles. You can offer rich creamy sides and gravies to give that warm extra touch.

6. Invitations: Everyone knows that you can’t get through the holiday season without some sparkle showing, now here’s your chance with your invitations. Go wild with sparkly, shiny touches and of course ribbons! Make your invitation look like the perfect present to be unwrapped.

7. Dresses and Accessories: Why not go for a romantic full-sleeve dress or a beautiful fur capelet? Winter weddings are the perfect time to amp up your extravagant accessories- what about getting your bridesmaids to warm their ears in fur mufflers? Or have your flower girl in a beautiful fur cap for the outdoor pictures?
